Online LLC Administrative Tool
The Online Language Learning Center (OLLC) is a secure, password protected virtual language lab used by Department of Modern Languages and Literature faculty and their students. It is often used to accompany language workbook assignments. Faculty interested in using the OLLC should contact the Language Learning Services Manager, Tina Oestreich, for more information on setting up their courses.
In addition to providing students with the ability to complete lab assignments from the comfort of their own room, the OLLC also contains an administrative component that faculty can use to view and change information about their courses, as well as to monitor student use of the OLLC. Each component of the faculty administrative application is explained in detail below. For more information about the OLLC from a student perspective, be sure to visit our Student Resources: Online LLC page.

All student usage of the OLLC is logged into a database, allowing students and their instructors to monitor the time spent using the lab. Instructors have access to detailed attendance information, allowing them access to all usage data connected to their students.
Instructors can also narrow the data viewed by sorting for information such as single student versus whole class attendance, or by selecting a start and end date. The resultant data can be sorted by student name, date of usage and the start or end time of the usage session.

Instructors can also determine overall OLLC usage trends on a monthly and daily basis.
The course usage statistics feature displays data on a month-by-month basis. For each month, a summary of course activity is provided, giving the total number of sessions, the number of students who used the lab out of the total enrolled, the average weekly sessions and the average session length. Below this information, a graph displaying usage by day is shown, to help visualize trends in lab usage, allowing the instructor to determine the regularity with which students make use of the lab.

The OLLC also provides a student voice recording feature allowing instructors to assess student pronunciation.
With the assignment management interface, instructors can assign students a text to be read aloud. Assignment title, due date and description can all be added. Once added, the assignment will appear in the students' audio recording section, allowing them to select the assignment and record the reading specified in the assignment description.

The OLLC provides an interface for instructors to listen to their students' audio recordings.
The listening interface for student recordings presents the instructor with a list of all posted audio recording assignments with the number of students who have submitted recordings for each assignment. Once an assignment is selected, all student recordings are available in playlist format through an in-browser Flash player which streams the recordings.

The OLLC also provides instructors with the ability to preview audio and video material assigned to students.
The course material preview page contains a list of all audio and video material sets available to the students. Each item refers to a Windows Media playlist containing all of the audio or video files for the material set, which will begin streaming when the instructor clicks on the specified material set.
