OK folks, here is Day 3. First of course there was the bus ride to the conference. It was early and no one was very talkative. -
First stop was to get some food. -
OK, the first stop was to see Kim getting food with,,, -
Heather Ramsey! -
The food court was very empty.
(Because it wasn't open yet!)
-
I met up with Dave from the Cleveland Institute of Art. -
And myself had the breakfast of champions, a muffin, a cookie, and some Dr. Pepper. -
Frank Collins took the directions of "hold up your badge" literally. -
The three of us went to see the Ratatouille talk. I think Frank was glues, Dave was bored, and I was somewhere in between. The audience in these talks is really diverse and sometimes the speakers are not very dynamic or hold back too much on the amazing visuals that would keep us glued. We didn't stay the entire time. -
Dave was very upset that only the Student Volunteers got the baseball caps this year (you can't buy them at the store). I suggested that he ask a SV to try on the hat so I can take a picture. To which he added "And then I run away really fast?" Not quite. Anyways, there doesn't appear to be a shortage of hats! -
Greg was wearing an amazing Beastie Boys shirt.
(No Sleep - Till You Get Your Website Done!)
-
And Jim Mathieson-Kilmer is pretty much everywhere! -
More of these damn FJORG! stickers! The animations better be good.
As a project it is a great idea and we are all looking forward to seeing the results!
-
It appears that Jim Demmers from Georgia Tech only has one shirt!
(As he was wearing this in the picture I took of him last year)
-
So Shawna from Hubnutz likes to put her sticker on the back of your badge so that when it turns around she gets some free advertising. -
She and Dave has much to discuss. -
My badge is mounted so that it can't turn around. Since my badge can't turn around she stuck em on my backside because "I can turn around". -
Is that 3:35 or 7:15? -
So I went to get ready for my Wed and Thurs presentations. -
So I told the guys that I had two questions and one of them they couldn't answer. Noel (on the left) then said "So don't ask it!" Wes (on the right) said that he had no desire to be "a goat again" referring to the fiasco of 2003 when he messed up my files (I am very glad he remembered but I will be using my own notebook!) And with great respect they do a great job overall! -
Does anyone else find it funny that the sign shop crew have a hand written sign? -
Marco was wrong! Oliver is here! -
Ken Baer with Bob. I forgot to bring Ken's phone number with me! So we didn't meet up at the Sake party. -
The next talk we went to was on gesture based modeling and animation. Wow! Just a few highlights with some links below! -
Teddy: A Sketching Interface for 3D Freeform Design - - - - -
Moving Sketch - - -
Spatial Keyframing for Performance-driven Animation - -
Ah the San Diego weather! -
Anyone care for a 3 hour cruise? -
The flowers were lovely. This is not CG these are real flowers. - - -
It wouldn't be SIGGRAPH without Jim Blinn! -
Samuel Lord Black - I love his name and he has a nifty vest too! -
I first met Scott Conrad at the Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland where he had a very nice installation. -
I didn't get his name (or his names even!) -
Genevieve Mathieson Kilmer! -
She has a wonderful collection of SIGGRAPH pins! -
Albert William from IUPUI does very nice work with Stereoscopic Imaging -
And Atif Zafar also from IUPUI -
During lunch we heard some drummers. It was great but is also scared the crap out of us and made it difficult to talk. - - -
Of course the amazingly long lines were more of a lunchtime distraction! -
The guys from the Philippines were very nice. -
As well as this media crew from Germany. -
And Michael Cohen from the University of Aizu in Japan invited me to lunch with him. -
I spent a nice amount of time talking to Bud (who is a recent Full Sail graduate) -
These nice ladies from the BBC asked if we could be in a picture with them so I asked them to be on this site. -
Some very brave gulls! - -
We also spent time with Naomi Oguma and Jun Yamadera from Japan. -
The afternoon turned into a great philosophical discussion. Which resulted in me getting a sunburn on my forehead! This guy came over and when I asked him his name he pointed to his cup. We figured he meant the hand written "George" not the printed "Starbucks" logo. - -
Charles and Alice Edgin of DMG Publishing. Publishers of HDRI 3D Magazine -
The one and only (even though I have 2 of his cards) Stephen M. Burns
www.chromeallusion.com
-
Emerging Technologies and the Art Gallery! My first walk through is just to see what catches my eye. -
Mike (beardless) I almost didn't see him but he has a way about him that you can't miss - he is so mellow! -
The panoramas of Kazuhiko Kobayashi caught me right away because I work in the same impossible 360 lens format (though I must admit the prints were very well done and very very large) - - -
Ever heard of the Data Glove? Well Thomas G, Zimmerman invented it! -
He also has an amazing 3D microscope that used 1 camera, 2 lights, and a whole lot of plankton. -
Kim and Jana again. I just like these guys they are so involved and are so nice! -
This woman told me she was the "fun police" and stepped in to make sure everyone was having fun. -
Especially when trying to view this display that you could only see the images when you moved your eyes.
(Its like those flashing wand things without the moving wands). Very funky!
-
Do not miss seeing the E Ink stuff. Electronic Paper Displays are here!
This is the future.
- - - - -
A wonderful hologram,
This might be a stereo pair!
- -
Goldy is now an XSV (ex-Student volunteer) and an employee of Microsoft! -
She looks skeptical because Evren (east coast represent guy) thinks she looks like Jessica from Chapters. -
Bonnie Mitchell from BGSU -
I don't know what this weird globe display is yet! -
An interactive of "A Bar at the Folies Bergere" -
Goldy and I asked Jason here if at the end of the conference I offered him $20 for his hat what would he say.
His response was "I'd say $50"
-
Rebecca was so sweet and nice and told me to "get the hell out" cause they were closing.
Actually I paraphrased, she just said it was time to go.
-
I met up with Rob Rothfarb (from the Exploratorium) and Santiago at the Sake opening. -
Santiago was so excited to see himself on his cell phone! -
Sharon from LA was there. -
Well a lot of people were at the reception it was the 20th anniversary! -
Yoichiro Kawagushi presented his art! -
And they had a live interactive dance as well. - - - - - - - - - - -
Everyone is getting ready to smash open the barrel! -
3.2.1... -
These lenticulars hid the mixing boards. -
Mikola may look young but at 22 he is legal to drink the sake. -
Yoichiro Kawagushi signed a lot of autographs. -
I wanted to make sure to not forget the dancers: Leslie Seiters and Justin Morrison they were amazing. -
Lisa Smith from The Art of Digital Show was taking pictures and they have a great site which everyone should check out. -
Sue Gollifer from Brighton -
And Amber, Elea, Sebastien, and Manu.
Sebastien has some amazing stuff that you must check out!
-
I was holding my fan and my cup and Pam Hogarth from Gnomon thought I had a tray of hordourves!
Here she is with Eric Riwer from Gobelins in Paris.
-
Michael Wright is in the Guerilla Studio this week so I will have to check out his work! -
Pierre and Eric -
Jim Demmers and Lourdes Livingston from the Academy of Art University. -
YT Lee from Nanyang Technological University
(I kept trying to get a good picture but I was running out of battery!)
-
I met this guy a few years back with a parrot on his shoulder. Now he is running MegaWonderful.com -
It was awful I kept running out of charge and getting one or two more pictures like: Matthew Trentacost from Vancouver with Caroline Larboulette from Madrid (Spain) -
In the end Santiago was truly the belle of the ball.
How he got everything he is holding (and wearing) is a mystery.
-
And my last picture before I ran out of power (and went with Dave to Dick's Last Resort) is of
Terrence Masson - 2010 SIGGRAPH Chair (who at the moment is a chair) with
Dana Boadway "Animation Goddess"
